Alan K. Meinke, M.D. FACS

A Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Albion College, Dr. Meinke attended Wayne School of Medicine in Detroit followed by a five year fellowship in Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota.

A fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is one of a small number of surgeons in the United States who has been certified as a Diplomat in Surgery three times.

After joining Surgical Associates, he was named Director of Surgical Education at Norwalk Hospital, a position he has held for over twenty years. Dr. Meinke is the current Chief of General Surgery with a focus on surgical quality improvement at Norwalk Hospital. A Clinical Instructor in Surgery for the prestigious Yale School of Medicine/Norwalk Hospital PA Surgical Residency, he has received the Award for Excellence in Clinical Instruction four times in the past ten years. Dr. Meinke is an instructor in the Mayo Medical School and in the American College of Surgeons Advanced Trauma Life Support Program lecturing at New York Medical College.

Dr Meinke is a member of multiple selective international and national surgical organizations including the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Societe International de Chirurgie, and the New England Surgical Society. He is the Credentials Chairman in Connecticut for the American College of Surgeons and serves on their Executive Committee.

A biographee of both Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World, and named a "Top Doctor" by Connecticut Magazine, Dr. Meinke is a frequent contributor to the international surgical literature, with a focus on innovations in laparoscopic surgical procedures.

Dr Meinke has provided medical support for the United Way, the Westport and Wilton Volunteer Ambulance, Staples High School Football and Hockey Teams, Interfaith Housing Association, and the Fairfield-Westchester Crohns and Colitis Foundation, and has served as a mission surgeon at rural hospitals in India and Africa.

Trained at the Mayo Clinic in a broad range of general surgical disciplines, his current clinical interests include the laparoscopic resection of major abdominal tumors, diverticulitis and colonic cancer, endocrine surgery (thyroid, parathyroid, pancreas, adrenal, and breast problems), gallbladder, and hernia surgery.
